Hoewel de overheersende mood van Varillas kan beschreven worden als feel-good, rijken zijn kleurrijke ritmes veel verder: van zijn eigen roots vertaald in rumba's, flamenco, Latijns Amerikaanse salsa's, tango's en bossa nova's, tot African Highlife, Mali blues, en Caraïbische calypso en soca. Deze prettige tempo's worden echter vaak gecontrasteerd met melodieën van de grimmigere klanken des levens. 

“I like the idea of sad lyrics with happy music. It balances things out. Though I love the initial vibe people get, the music has more depth than that first impression suggests. I remember reading somewhere that people won't remember what you say, but they'll remember how you made them feel. I think that’s very true.”

Zijn debuut El Dorado haalde de Top Ten Albums-lijst van Classic Pop Magazine in 2017: "Britons may have to wait before they can turn off their central heating, but Spanish-born London resident Gizmo Varillas could well make the next months more bearable." Zijn tweede creatie staat gepland voor mei 2018, maar de single 'Losing You' licht al een tipje van de sluier op. Ze bleek bovendien geïnspireerd op de aanslag van de Push nightclub in Orlando, waar één man 49 mensen doodde en 58 verwondde.
