De jonge Londense componist en pianist Joe Armon-Jones bevindt zich middenin de levendige Londense jazzscene, waar dit voorjaar fantastische dingen gebeuren. "Nothing quite like this has happened in Britain for around 30 years. Not on this scale anyway", vindt All About Jazz.

Joe Armon-Jones bracht begin mei zijn debuutalbum Starting Today uit, waarmee hij zich out als soulvolle, moderne producer. Ook al vond hij zonder veel moeite fantastische muzikanten die op zijn plaat wilden spelen, toch slaagt Armon-Jones erin om zelf volop in de schijnwerpers te staan. 

 Label Brownswood was laaiend enthousiast. Het leverde hem een platendeal op en een plekje op We Out Here, Gilles Peterson's compilatie van die nieuwe golf jazztalent die de stad overspoelt. De prachtige titeltrack, gezongen door Asheber (Afrikan Revolution), is een 'nine-minute modern-jazz-dance call to arms', volgens Pitchfork.
